Shivapuri-Nagarkot trek is a well-known hiking route near Kathmandu Valley. The program gives you a unique opportunity to see the rural suburbia of the valley that is unspoiled by modernization and has views of pristine nature. Protected as Shivapuri National Park, it lies between sub-tropical and temperate climate zones with diverse vegetation and birds species. On a clear day, you can have wonderful views of around 60 snowcapped peaks and the wonderful mountain villages far and wide. Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Range, Mt. Dorje-Lakpa, Mt. Gaurishankar and Mt. Sishapangma are seen during this popular trek nearby Kathmandu Valley.

You start the trek from Budhanilkantha, a famous Vishnu Stone Statue, walking through forests along the bank of the Bagmati River. Shivapuri is a place for photography, bird watching, and nature walk that we advise you to bring your camera and binoculars. Some animals seen here are sloth bear, leopard, civet, marten, pangolin, wild boar, and porcupine. Upon reaching Shivapuri Hill, the highest point at 2,732 meters in this trail, you will begin the forest trek to Nagarkot. In the spring, these hills smell of rhododendron as the flowers bloom in all their glory, attracting birds and colourful insects.

En route to Nagarkot trek, you can visit the Sundarijal Hydropower Dam that is one of the closest power stations from Kathmandu. If you choose to go on an extended trek, you will visit Chisapani – a few hours’ trek from the capital. You will stay a night at Chisapani, enjoy a pleasant morning and trek to Nagarkot. Arriving at Nagarkot, you will relax in a pre-booked hotel of our choice and enjoy a spectacular sunrise view from the hill station. On your way back, you hike to Changunarayan, which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in the Kathmandu Valley. The temple is located at an altitude of 1,600 metres and it is a vantage point to observe the beautiful villages, cultivated lands and the amazing view of the entire valley. The temple serves you as an open museum giving you the information about the ancient history and culture tradition of Nepal. Built in traditional Nepali architectural style, this temple sits on a hilltop surrounded by the champak trees. The inscriptions found in the temple premises proves that it is the first written historical document of Nepal.

After enjoying the mesmerizing view of the snow-clad mountains and the entire Kathmandu Valley, you catch a bus that leaves you up to the Old Bus Station. Day to Day Itinerary

After you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport, the representative of Orbit Alpine Adventure welcomes and transfer you to hotel. You can spend the evening around Thamel or just sit enjoying a drink. In the evening, our trekking company invites you to a welcome dinner somewhere around Thamel.

After breakfast, you drive to Budhanilkantha at the foot of Shivapuri, around 15 kilometres from Kathmandu. Before you begin the trekking formally, you can take a short look at the largest stone idol of the Hindu deity, Lord Vishnu. Afterwards, you will begin the trek along the Bagmati River bank, walking towards its source. Upon reaching the top of Shivapuri Hill, you can have fantastic mountain views and the valley surrounded by the forests of Shivapuri National Park. Stay in a tent overnight.

Today you will wake up early, have breakfast and continue the trek. The trek is an easy one today with very little variations of surface. The trail passes through dense forests and rhododendron bushes. Periodically, you will have good views of the surrounding valleys. Upon reaching Sundarijal, you take a short walk around the Sundarijal Hydropower Dam. Stay overnight in a tent.

The Sundarijal Chisapani trek takes about six hours. The trail passes through Shivapuri National Park and the first village you come across is Mulkharka. Mulkharka is a Tamang village in the middle of the dense rhododendron forests and is decorated with mani walls and prayer flags. Then, you walk past the Borlang Bhanjyang (2,460m/8,110ft) and head down the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisapani (2,300m). Stay overnight at tented camp in Chisapani.

Today we continue our hiking after having breakfast. We start from Chauki Bhanjyang (1,760m/5,774ft) by enjoying Jugal Himal (3,600m), Langtang, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal Ranges. By watching dense forest, birds and wonderful landscapes, you continue the pleasant trails leading towards Nagarkot. From Nagarkot Hilltop, you can enjoy the sunset view of the Himalayas and the valleys around it. Overnight at a tented camp in Nagarkot.

Wake up as early as you can this morning so that you can have the most splendid sunrise view from this hilltop. Nagarkot sunrise view is one of the most fascinating views in the world, so, don’t miss it! After watching sunrise view of the mountain ranges, we hike from Nagarkot down to Changu Narayan, which takes approximately three and half hours.

When you arrive Changunarayan Temple, you can have a magnificent distant view of the Himalayas located in the northern side. The scenery of the cultivated lands and the concrete gardens of Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Lalitpur are equally memorable. There are many sites and things to visit around the temple premises like Museum and the idols of various Hindu deities. You can also read the most ancient inscription, which is the first written document to shape the history of Nepal. After we explore the natural scenery and cultural sites, now it is the end of your Shivapuri-Sundarijal trek. From there, we drive for about an hour to Kathmandu and stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu. In the evening, our company organizes a farewell dinner at a cultural restaurant around Thamel.
