Shivapuri-Nagarkot is a well-known hiking route near Kathmandu Valley. The program gives you a unique opportunity to see the rural suburbia of the valley, that is unspoiled by modernization and has views of pristine nature. Protected as Shivapuri National Park, it lies between sub-tropical and temperate climate zones with diverse plant life. On a clear day you can have wonderful views of snow-capped peaks such as Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal Range, Langtang Range, Mt. Dorje-Lakpa, Mt. Gaurishankar and Mt. Sishapangma.
You start the trek from Budhanilkantha walking through forests along the bank of Bagmati River. Shivapuri is a place for photography, bird-watching, and nature-walk. You are advised to bring along your camera and binoculars. Some animals seen here are sloth bear, leopard, civet, marten, pangolin, wild boar, and porcupine. Upon reaching Shivapuri Hill, the highest point at 2,729 meters in this trail, you will begin the forest trek to Nagarkot. In the spring, these hills smell of rhododendron as the flowers bloom in all their glory, attracting birds and colourful insects.
If you choose to go on an extended trek, you will visit Chisapani – a few hours’ trek from the capital. You will stay a night at Chisapani, enjoy a pleasant morning and trek back to Nagarkot. Arriving at Nagarkot, you will relax in a pre-booked hotel of our choice and enjoy a spectacular sunrise view from the hill station. On your way back you can hike to Changu Narayan, Dhulikhel or Namobuddha if you wish to extend your trip for one night more.
