Paldor Peak (5,896m) lies between the Tiru and Karpu Hillocks in south-east of Ganesh Himal (7,422m) Range. First climbed by Bill Tilman’s expedition team in 1949 from North-East Ridge, it is gaining its popularity day by day. Another successful Paldor Peak climbing was made by Lan Howell and John Cleare in 1974. Between 1949 and 1974, there had been no ascent to this peak as the record shows.

The non-technical peak can be climbed from North East, South East, West and South East Ridge. It has been a popular trekking peak of Nepal as it is below 6,000m. One can climb this peak without previous climbing experience. The Sherpa guide gives you the required instructions for doing this climbing without any accident.

On the acclimatization day at at the base camp, the guide gives you a refreshment training. He will guide you to use the climbing gears like ice axes, crampons, hand line, etc. By keeping the body in good health, having enough water and food makes you physically ready. Moreover, when you are mentally alert to complete this journey, it is superb!

Paldor Peak climbing leads you through the Langtang Valley and Ganesh Himal region. During the travel, you can see the flora and fauna of the Himalayan region. The forests of oak, pine and rhododendron are inhabited by different types of bird species. 1. Where is Paldor Peak?

Paldor Peak lies in the east of Ganesh Himal Range. It is one among the closest trekking peaks from Kathmandu Valley. You can extend Paldor Peak climbing itinerary with Langtang Valley trek and Ruby Valley trek as well.

2. Is Paldor Peak climbing difficult?

As it is a non-technical trekking peak of Nepal, it is not much hard to climb Paldor Peak. The Sherpa Guide gives you the basic training to use the climbing gears while you are at the base camp. This refreshment training helps you measure the summit of Paldor Peak in a comfortable way. The guide will fix the rope to reach the top of this peak if necessary.

3. How can I reach Paldor Peak?

You drive along the Pasang Lhamu Highway up to Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang region and Ganesh Himal trekking. You begin the trek for climbing Paldor Peak from there. By walking for about 6 hours every day, you reach the base camp in three days. After a day’s acclimatization, you climb High Camp and then the summit the next day.

4. Do I need previous peak climbing experience to climb Paldor Peak?

Not exactly! First of all, this is a non-technical peak and next is below 6,000m. By following the instructions given by the Sherpa guide, you can do this trip. Nevertheless, the previous climbing experience will be an added point to successfully do this peak climbing.

Day to Day Itinerary

On your arrival, the representative of Orbit Alpine Adventure welcomes you at the Kathmandu Airport. Then, you will be transferred to the hotel. After becoming fresh, you can visit Thamel Bazaar on your own.

Today, the tour guide takes you for Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour. You will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites as led by the guide. You will go around Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa (the Monkey Temple), Bouddhanath Stupa and Patan Durbar Square. In the evening, the team leader gives you the required details about Paldor Peak climbing itinerary.

After breakfast, you start the roadway trip towards Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang Valley trek. Driving nearly for 6 hours along the Pasang Lhamu Highway in a private jeep or local bus, you reach the destination. En route, you have the glimpses of the snowy peaks of Langtang region, Ganesh Himal Range and Manaslu region trekking. The high altitude villages surrounded by the green forests come into your sight.

You traverse along the banks of the Chilime Khola in the beginning. Then, you cross a couple of suspension bridges over the Chilime Khola. Afterwards, the trail goes along Gholjong Sango and a water canal towards Tangjet Village. By walking past the cultivated lands with seasonal crops and vegetables, you continue the trekking. You reach Gatlang Village by crossing mani walls, carved stones and lotus mandalas en route.

You begin today’s trip after having breakfast. The track goes across a small hillock called Khumbu Danda (3,739m). You can have the amazing view of the dense forests and Himalayan views from here. Then, the trail moves through the dense forests of pine, fir and rhododendron trees. You can have the majestic view of Langtang Himalayan Range and Annapurna (8,091m) Massif. By walking along the newly constructed road, you reach Somdang Village for the night settlement.

The trail from Somdang Village to Lari goes along the dense rhododendron forests and open farmlands. While moving along the rocky trail, you have the astounding view of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu (8,163m) region and Annapurna region. By keeping Ganesh Himal on your east, you reach Lari Village. From here, you can also see Paldor Peak (5,896m).

As this is the spare day for acclimatization, you don’t have to move towards further destination. The following day, you are going to trek up to the base camp of Paldor Peak. You can take a short side trip around Lari or even can take rest whole day by enjoying the magnificent vistas of glaciers and snowy peaks. Besides, you can also take a walk around the village to converse with the villagers. They will share some interesting anecdotes about the place as well. After having breakfast, you move ahead along a manganese mine site to the barren land of the Langtang region. The trail further ascends through the moraines of Paldor Peak Glaciers along the ridges. By climbing along the steep cliff, you reach the junction of the West and East Paldor Glacier. There, you set up your tent for the night station.

Ascending along the moraine of the glaciers, you reach a glacial lake called Fang. You set up the tent to the east of the Fang Lake. From here, you can have the mesmerizing view of glaciers, lakes and soaring mountains. The Sherpa guide gives you basic training about using the climbing gears. This last minute training gives you some technique to climb the peak successfully. If you have any confusion, you can ask the climbing guide.

By following the steep trail to the west of the Paldor Glacier, you continue towards the summit of Paldor Peak. As the rocks are loose and the trail is icy, you must be quite careful while walking higher. Once you are on the top of Paldor Peak (5,860m), you can have the breathtaking view of the snowcapped peaks of Nepal and Tibet. You can see Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,993m) and Mt. Shishapangma (8,027m) from the top. After capturing the lifetime moments in your camera and the mind, you climb down to Base Camp.

After having breakfast, you begin descending towards Somdang Village. As the trail is sloppy, you should be careful during the journey. Crossing the manganese mine and the dense forests, you reach the final destination for the day.

You have your breakfast and begin the journey by following the sloppy trail along the Bhote Koshi River. Then, you reach Thanbbuche Village, which is located nearby Chilime Village. On the way, you can visit the Chilime Hydropower Project as well. By crossing a suspension bridge, you reach Tatopani for the night rest. You can take a bath at the natural hot water (tatopani) to get rid of muscle aches.

Today, you go for a hiking to Nagthali Ghyang as it is the vantage point of this region. By following the steep trail that goes past the dense rhododendron forests, you reach Brimdang Village. From the top of Nagthali Danda, you relish the snowcapped peaks as far as Annapurna region and Tibetan side. After enjoying the enchanting view of the Great Himalayas, dense forests and beautiful valleys, you trek down to Tatopani. You spend this night also in the tented camp.

This is the final day of walking in Paldor Peak climbing package. You start the trip after having breakfast. You can buy some handcrafted and clothing items to present to you people back in home country.
