Bandipur is a picturesque village nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. Approximately midway between Kathmandu and Pokhara, this village is located at a hilly ridge about 7 km from Dumre. Known for its beautiful scenery, Bandipur is lined with temple and streets that reminds one of medieval Kathmandu. In fact it would not be much of a surprise if it is being viewed as a mini Kathmandu of old. The temples with their exquisite woodwork and the quaint streets quickly render an atmosphere found rarely elsewhere in the mid-hills of Nepal.
Once you reach this village, you will be attracted by its cultural appeal and pristine scenery. Reminding you of the typical Newari architecture of the capital, this village is a heady mixture of culture and nature. Enjoy the evening watching a spectacular panorama of the Annapurna Range and sections of other mountains. With its ancient roots as a trading outpost, today the village has transformed into a resort where you will find people from many countries restlessly clicking their camera buttons.
A primary activity in Bandipur is cave exploration – with some of the largest and most accessible ones in Nepal. Usually, tourists choose to shorten a day in Pokhara or Kathmandu and come to Bandipur for a night’s stay. You can choose to stay in one of the mushrooming luxury hotels or find a bed-and-breakfast room that serve your needs. The best way to reach here is to arrive at mid-day from Pokhara or Kathmandu.
